Zheng Wenchan, Mayor Of Taoyuan, Was Withdrawn For Plagiarism
After Lin Zhijian, the former mayor of Hsinchu, was revoked for plagiarizing his master’s degree in Taiwan University, Zheng Wenchan, the mayor of Taoyuan, followed suit. Both of their professors were Chen Mingtong, the head of Taiwan’s security department, which caused discussion. In this regard, Zhao Shaokang, a commentator on current affairs in the island, said bluntly that the DPP lost the election. The breach began with Lin Zhijian, Mayor of Hsinchu, and now it is a disaster to delay Zheng Wenchan, who may be the chairman of the DPP or the head of the administrative department. Isn’t Chen Mingtong the culprit? He said that if Chen Mingtong did not step down immediately, the whole security department would be shamed. If Cai Ing wen did not fire Chen Mingtong quickly, why should Chen continue to be “clean” in the security department?
Zhao Shaokang pointed out on Facebook on the 3rd that Zheng Wenchan was transferred to the Department of Electrical Engineering after he was admitted to the Department of Electrical Engineering of Taiwan University. His college degree is very good, and he won’t gain much points if he has a master’s degree from Taiwan University. How can he have time to study when his official duties are busy? Unless it’s easy to get a degree. However, why did Zheng Wencan go to Taiwan University to study for a master’s degree? Zhao Shaokang said that because Chen Mingtong was teaching at the Taiwan University, Zheng Wenchan knew that as long as Chen Mingtong released water, lifted it up and put it down gently, the master’s degree would be readily available. Chen Mingtong’s name as “green camp military adviser” must be widely spread in the Democratic Progressive Party. Otherwise, how could there be so many green camp politicians joining Chen Mingtong’s door?
Zhao Shaokang said that the DPP’s defeat in this election started with Lin Zhijian’s thesis, and Chen Mingtong was the originator. Chen Mingtong’s release of water in the past led to the collapse of the current DPP, which is also a kind of political secular newspaper. Zhao Shaokang said frankly that Chen Ming had harmed the DPP.
Zhao Shaokang said that Chen Mingtong’s release of water was tantamount to helping students cheat, not to mention being a strict teacher. He was not even qualified to be a teacher.
Zhao Shaokang also mentioned that, for Zhao Gongxin’s sake, NTU should at least screen and compare the papers of 173 master and doctoral students under Chen Mingtong’s guidance with a computer to see if there is plagiarism outside or in pairs. Zhao Shaokang said that he did not believe that Chen Mingtong’s family only did this, otherwise these masters and doctors would be ashamed to admit who supervised the graduate students.
Zheng Wenchan’s master’s thesis was copied up to 30.27% after comparison
According to comprehensive Taiwan media reports, Zheng Wenchan’s master’s thesis written at the University of Taiwan was copied by 30.27% after comparison, and was reported by You Zhibin, a candidate for the election of Taoyuan City Member of the New Party. After two months of investigation, NTU confirmed plagiarism and formally informed Zheng Wenchan of his decision to revoke his degree.
On the evening of December 2, Zheng Wenchan posted an article on Facebook, saying, “I quoted a wide range of papers, did not plagiarize a single paper, nor did I have a motivation to plagiarize”, and apologized again for “the flaws in the paper quotation”.
Following Lin Zhijian, the former mayor of Hsinchu, Zheng Wenchan is the second political figure of the Democratic Progressive Party to have his master’s degree revoked due to plagiarism in his thesis. Both of them graduated from the Research Institute of Taiwan University, and their guiding professors are Chen Mingtong, the current head of Taiwan’s security department.
Tsai Ing wen resigned as chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party after her defeat in the “Nine in One” local election and was replaced by Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Qimai. Chen Qimai has said that he will not run for the party chairman. Zheng Wenchan, who is responsible for convening the review panel on the defeat of the election, is considered a strong competitor for the party chairman and a candidate acceptable to both the new trend of the largest faction in the DPP and Tsai Ing wen.
Guo Zhengliang, a commentator on current affairs in the island, pointed out in the Zhongtian News program that Zheng Wenchan was the party chairman candidate with consensus among all factions, but it should not be elected now. “Now the DPP is in trouble”.
