Taiwan Cracked A Cannabis Planting Case With A Market Value Of More Than Nt $1.2 Billion

Taiwan Taoyuan Local People’s Procuratorate and the Longtan Branch of Taoyuan Municipal Police Bureau jointly held a press conference on the 17th to introduce that the largest cannabis planting case in Taiwan’s anti drug history was investigated that day, 4218 cannabis plants and other exhibits were seized, with a market value of more than NT $1.26 billion, and 8 people were prosecuted according to law.
According to Taiwan media reports such as the “Central News Agency”, “Zhongshi News Network” and “Lianhe News Network”, the COVID-19 epidemic is spreading all over the world. The strict border control has made it difficult to smuggle drugs. The supply of cannabis drugs in the island falls short of demand, and the price continues to soar. The suspect named Wu took advantage of his own background of importing and exporting flowers and gardening to acquire hemp seeds, learned planting techniques online, set up cultivation equipment with the suspect named Ke, and recruited and controlled six escaped migrant workers to help plant hemp.
The suspect surnamed Wu selected the no navigation zone around the Taoyuan Longtan station of the Taiwan military and built an iron fence with the intention of producing and selling marijuana by himself. After ambush monitoring, the Taiwan police locked two suspects, Wu and Ke. In September, they raided and found 8 people, 4218 cannabis plants, tincture of cannabis, finished and semi-finished cannabis products, cannabis planting manual and other related exhibits. The market value of the products exceeded NT $1.26 billion, and more than one million people could smoke them.
The police said that this was the largest number of marijuana plants in the island’s anti drug history. After the news, eight people were transferred to the Taoyuan Public Prosecutor’s Office for investigation on the suspicion of violating the “Regulations on the Prevention and Control of Drug Hazards” and asked for permission to be detained.
According to the prosecutor of Taoyuan District Public Prosecutor’s Office, 8 men surnamed Wu and others were involved in the second level drug manufacturing crime under the “Drug Hazard Prevention and Control Ordinance” and filed a public prosecution. The prosecutor said that the court has been requested to consider that the amount of drugs seized in this case is huge, which has a great impact on public health and social security, and is very likely to escape and hide, and should continue to be detained to punish the lawlessness.
