Lithuanian Minister of Economy and Innovation Almonette met with Taiwan’s “Central and Eastern European Economic and Trade Mission” on the 21st, and suggested that the two sides evaluate the possibility of establishing a semiconductor joint production center.
Huang Junyao, the so-called “representative of Taiwan authorities in Lithuania”, said in an interview with the Central News Agency that the two sides are still exploring different modes of cooperation, but Taiwan is very sincere in conducting industry-university-research cooperation with Lithuania.
In October last year, Gong Mingxin, chairman of the “Development Committee” of the Taiwan authorities, led a “Central and Eastern European Economic and Trade Mission” with a total of 66 people to visit Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Lithuania. In March this year, the Taiwan authorities sent a mission to these three countries again. But the scale is small, about 30 people, mainly experts, and there are officials from the foreign affairs department, the economic department, the science and technology department and the education department.
According to the report, the delegation started its itinerary in Lithuania on the 21st, and went to the Ministry of Economics and Innovation to meet Oslin Armonet.
Armonette said that the “Taili Semiconductor and Materials Science Center” was established in Lithuania in February. The next step is to establish a production center and evaluate the feasibility of investment by TSMC, UMC or other companies.
In January, the Taiwan authorities successively announced the establishment of a US$200 million “Central and Eastern Europe Investment Fund” and a US$1 billion financing fund, with key objectives including promoting industrial cooperation between Taiwan and Lithuania.
