According to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on December 10, China and Nicaragua signed the “Joint Communiqué on the Resumption of Diplomatic Relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Nicaragua.” The two governments have decided to recognize each other and resume diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level from the date of signing the communiqué.
There is only one China in the world, the government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory. This is a fact of history and jurisprudence, and it is also a recognized norm of international relations.
Nicaragua is an important country in Central America. The Nicaraguan government recognizes and promises to abide by the one-China principle, sever so-called “diplomatic relations” with Taiwan, restore diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China, and promise not to have any official relations with Taiwan or conduct any official exchanges. This is a correct choice that conforms to the general trend and conforms to the people’s aspirations. China highly appreciates this.
China is willing to strengthen friendly cooperation in various fields with Nicaragua on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence to benefit the two countries and their peoples.
