On the afternoon of March 23, the Information Office of the State Council held a press conference in Wuhan to introduce the important role of Chinese medicine in preventing and treating COVID-19 and effective drugs and answer questions from reporters.
“The centralized isolation and universal use of traditional Chinese medicine to prevent the spread of the epidemic is the basis for our success.” Zhang Boli, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, shared his experience in the treatment of Wuhan COVID-19 at the conference.
Zhang Boli introduced that he arrived in Wuhan on January 27, and it is now almost two months. When he first arrived in Wuhan, the epidemic was raging, the hospital was full, hundreds of people were sent to the clinic for a few hours, and they lined up for hours to look down on the disease. After two months, the number of patients in Wuhan has dropped from more than 60,000 to 5,000, and the number of critically ill patients has decreased from 12,000 to 1,800. In particular, the “three zeros” have been achieved for five consecutive days, and the situation is improving.
“Traditional Chinese medicine has suppressed the spread of the epidemic, and I have a set of data to prove it.” Zhang Boli said that from February to mid-February, 80% of patients diagnosed with COVID-19 were diagnosed from the four categories. After taking the medicine for more than ten days, It dropped to 30% in mid-February and to single digits at the end of February. Therefore, centralized isolation and universal use of traditional Chinese medicine to prevent the spread of the epidemic are the basis for victory.
According to Zhang Boli, comprehensive treatment based on traditional Chinese medicine has been adopted in the Fangcai Hospital. In addition to decoctions and oral proprietary Chinese medicines, there are also comprehensive treatments such as massage, scraping, and sticking. “None of our 564 patients in the cabin has become seriously ill. After we have gained these experiences, we have promoted them to other cabins. There are more than a dozen cabins, and more than 10,000 patients generally use this traditional Chinese medicine.” Zhang Boli It is said that the weight conversion rate of each cabin is basically 2% to 5%. Building a cabin and comprehensive treatment of traditional Chinese medicine has significantly reduced the number of cases from mild to severe, which is the key to victory.
For severe treatment, Zhang Boli emphasized that western medicine is the mainstay, and that Chinese and Western medicines cooperate. “Critical treatment, combining Chinese and Western medicine, and reducing mortality are the core of our victory.”
