On April 28, China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) released the 45th “Statistical Report on the Development of China Internet Network” (hereinafter referred to as “Report”).
The “Report” focuses on six aspects of Internet infrastructure, the scale and structure of Internet users, the development of Internet applications, the development of Internet government affairs, the development of industry and technology, and Internet security. The status of China’s Internet development at the beginning of the year.
The “Report” shows that as of March 2020, the number of Internet users in China was 904 million, and the Internet penetration rate reached 64.5%. We note that the “Report” discloses the above-mentioned attribute structure of 904 million netizens.
As of March 2020, the ratio of male to female netizens in China is 51.9: 48.1, and the proportion of male netizens is slightly higher than that of the overall population (51.1%).
Among them, the proportions of netizens aged 20-29 and 30-39 were 21.5% and 20.8%, respectively, higher than those of other age groups; the proportion of netizens aged 40-49 was 17.6%; the proportion of internet users aged 50 and 16.9 was 16.9 %.
In terms of educational structure, the proportion of netizens with junior high school, high school / secondary school / technical school qualifications is 41.1% and 22.2%, respectively. The proportion of netizens with college education or above is 19.5%, and 17.2% of netizens Education is elementary school and below.
According to the “Report”, among the netizens in China, students accounted for the most, accounting for 26.9%; followed by self-employed / freelancers, accounting for 22.4%; corporate / company managers and general staff accounted for 10.9%.
In addition, the “Report” also announced the income structure of netizens in China: the netizens with a monthly income of 2001-5000 yuan accounted for 33.4% of the total, and the netizens with a monthly income of more than 5000 yuan accounted for 27.6%. The proportion of netizens whose income is below 1,000 yuan is 20.8%.
Public information shows that the China Internet Network Information Center, established on June 3, 1997, is now a public institution directly under the Office of the Central Network Security and Informatization Committee (National Internet Information Office) and exercises the responsibilities of the National Internet Network Information Center.
